About New York Kids?

WHAT IS NEW YORK KIDS?
NEW YORK KIDS is hot radio for cool kids in the Big Apple! (That's New York City!) It's a LIVE radio show every Sunday night from 6 to 8 PM on WNYC AM 820. NEW YORK KIDS is radio for kids, about kids, and most importantly, by kids!

Get the point? The show is all for KIDS! There are two cool adult hosts, Florence Barrau and Frank Perez. And each week they are joined by two kid co-hosts who usually come from a "Class of the Week." Plus, during every show thousands of kids call the free phone number -- 1 800 KID-2-KID (1 800 543-2-543). And you can too! You can play games, win prizes, and share your opinions about important kid issues. And you'll hear yourself on the radio!

WHAT IS WNYC?

WHAT IS THE "CLASS OF THE WEEK"?
It's a class that helps Florence and Frank make a NEW YORK KIDS program. The "Class of the Week" must be a 4th, 5th, or 6th grade from a school in New York City (that means in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, or Staten Island). Your teacher must volunteer your class to become "Class of the Week". If that happens, then NEW YORK KIDS producers will visit your school, record your voice on tape, and explain all the things you do to help make the program. They'll also pick one boy and one girl to come to WNYC and be on the radio with Florence and Frank.

Your teacher can get information about being "Class of the Week" by going to the "Teachers Only" part of this website. Or your teacher can call us at 212 669-3595 and we will mail information.. So, hurry up and tell your teacher about NEW YORK KIDS!

CAN I BE A CO-HOST IF MY SCHOOL IS NOT IN NEW YORK CITY?
You can if you win one of our "Co-Host Contests." Six times during the season NEW YORK KIDS announces a contest and any kid has a chance to become a co-host and come to WNYC. When it's time for a contest Frank and Florence will announce it on the show and explain all the details. Any kid in 3rd, 4th, 5th, or 6th grades can enter the "Co-Host Contests."
